I padded underneath the satin stitches, split stitching along the round edge of the scallop and working long horizontal stitches inside it. The scallops you see here are slightly spaced apart. I wanted the edges to remain distinct so that it’s easy to see what’s going on with each approach to scallops. To even out the curved seams, use a thin blunt object such as a paintbrush end or knitting needle. If you need a better guideline to get an even curve, go ahead and make a dotted line by measuring in 1/4″ and making dots along the edges. You will have to stitch carefully and adjust the stitch length as you sew. Outline stitch the scallop with back stitch or overcast stitch. Edge round divided by the length of a single scallop gives you the number of scallops.

Do not use too many strands of thread on the needle. You need very fine stitching at both ends of the scallops. Mark the scallops on the back side of the facing fabric. You should also turn under the edges of the facing piece and stitch – serged finish or a zig zag finish  works as well.
